Growing up as a USAF officer’s daughter, Mickie Higgins moved with her parents and five younger sisters to seven US states and to Lajes AFB on Terceira Island in the Azores, Portugal, her favorite of all her dad’s many military assignments. Mickie graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration-Accounting (’86) and a Master of Professional Accountancy (‘87), has been an accountant for 50 years and ran her CPA practice for over 33 years until semi-retirement in 2017.
She has been married 41 years to her husband Len Hallke Jr. They met 44 years ago when Mickie’s daughter was seven. They cherish a grandson who is 30. Mickie and Len love cooking, watching movies and traveling in America and Europe, especially to Sweden where many generations of Len’s ancestors were born. They planted permanent roots in Smyrna in 1993 and are active in local politics and events in the City of Smyrna and Cobb County. Mickie and Len have been LGBTQ allies for many decades. They donate their time and money to political candidates who support positive and progressive LGBTQ legislation and to organizations who fight negative LGBTQ and voter suppression legislation. “Len and I are very pleased to witness the progress and growth in diversity we’ve seen in Smyrna over the past 31 years.”
